I had someone pick up my mail while I was out of town. To my horror, they opened it all! My bank statement is missing. How do I know for sure that the bank mailed it? I have never missed one. I asked the bank to hold my statements while I was gone, but they would not.
If the bank said they would not hold your statement, they shouldn't have. You can call and verify when it was generated and when it should have been sent. Based on their record for consistency, if it was sent by a certain date, you can bet it should have been received a few days after that. Can you be 100% sure, no.
You may consider signing up for electronic statements if your bank offers them. Most do. This way you would have it in your email or on your bank's website. Depending on how much you trust the person you asked to pick up your mail, you may want to start monitoring your accounts and your credit report more often.
