My Bank Lost my Personal Information

My bank has lost all the signature cards associated with customers' safe deposit boxes. Since these cards had signatures, social security numbers, etc., on them, what can I do to protect myself and what does my bank have to do since this was their fault? Can I report them to some agency? I am in FL.

Requirements for notifications vary when confidential information is compromised. The bank is not under any obligation to pay for any ID theft protections.

If you suspect you are a victim of identity theft you should contact a major credit bureau, explain this to them and file a police report. You can then be alerted if your credit is being used or new credit applied for.

If your bank doesn't provide you with the resources to do handle this, refer to the FTC's ID Theft page which has a lot of information and links on what to do. _________________________
