Putting DL# on Checks

Virtually every time I write a check, they ask to see my Driver's License and they write down its number on the front of my check, as well as my date of birth. Is it possible for me to get my checks printed with this information? Seems like it would be a real timesaver.

Don't do it! It's one thing to have an occasional merchant view your ID and write down the information on the check, it's another thing to put that information on every check in your checkbook. If the process works correctly when you give a check to a merchant, it goes to the merchant's backroom, then to its bank. Few prying eyes will see it.

If you print this information on all your checks, however, it's on every check you write -- whether you're sending it off to pay for an item you purchased in an online auction or mailing it to your cable company. It unnecessarily increases your risk of becoming an ID theft victim. Don't do it! The merchants where you write checks are likely to want to still see your ID for themselves, so your time-savings would be minimal at best.
