I have a jointchecking account with my elderly father so I can help pay his bills, which are forwarded to me in a different city. He periodically gets dividend checks made out solely to him. How can I deposit them without his signature? I have POA.
There are two possibilities. First, the bank may be willing to accept the checks for deposit without your father's endorsement. Some banks will place a "credited account of payee" stamp in the endorsement area.
The second option is to use your power of attorney, assuming it extends to the operation of your dad's bank accounts. Endorse the checks by printing your father's name, followed by "by [your signature], attorney in fact."
