Making Deposit for Incapacitated Individual

I have an account at a credit union and I want to deposit my income tax refund. My wife is physically unable to go into the bank. Could I have her sign the check and deposit it into the account?

Your CU should be able to compare your spouse's signature on the check to the one on record. You may take her ID with you when you make the deposit as a precaution, but this should be acceptable. It is possible, depending on your account relationship, that they would want to see the endorsement made, but that isn't likely. In the future, you might want to e-file your return and ask that funds be direct deposited to your joint account. Published on BankingQuestions.com 2/19/09
