My husband had stroke about two years ago. He owed money for sales taxes in Texas before we closed the business. Due to losses and no business income, the Texas comptroller put a freeze our joint account. His Social Security check and mine were directed deposited and taken. My husband is incapacitated. Can we endorse the checks to my daughter's account and deposit them in her account, or what we should do until we are able to pay the amount due? They are charging us for taxes for the months after the shop was closed. If we take them off, we will be paid off with the money they already took and they will owe us money. Please help; I am desperate; I need that money very much.
Start by pleading your case with the Texas tax authorities. You may find that they will be willing to work with you, if you take the first step of contacting them. It sounds like your case might be considered a hardship worthy of some flexibility from the state. If you simply try to squirrel away money where the state can't find it, penalties and interest will continue to grow on the tax due, and you'll only complicate matters.
