Disclosing Bankruptcy on Credit Applications

How many years do I have to wait until I do not have to disclose a bankruptcy on credit applications?

Untitled

In many cases a credit application will ask if you have ever filed for bankruptcy. There is no expiration for accurate information.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act which controls the information about your credit history as reported by credit bureaus, tells us that bankruptcy information will be retained for seven to ten years. It depends on the bankruptcy and the use of the information. After that it will drop off your credit history.

That doesn't mean a lender who was involved in that bankruptcy has to purge it from his records. If you went back to him, he can still deny you credit.
