Are there any tips on getting the most out of my auto-insurance costs?
As with any bulk retailer, there are lower costs in numbers for insurance policies as well. Combining your auto, home/renters and life insurance together may yield a lower cost than having them at separate companies.
Raise your deductible. Often this is low at around $250. You may find a more reasonable premium if you raise this to $500. In some instances your premium could drop 25% or more with this small adjustment. It does increase what you would have to pay in the event of a claim, and it reduces smaller claims for your provider.
Ensure you are getting discounts for being a good driver when these are offered. Also ensure that if you have taken a defensive driving class, that you get a discount for that, when entitled. This includes if you took the class as a result of a ticket.
If you have teenagers on your policy, identify them as drivers in the car with the lowest cost. Different cars have different costs.
