Bank Will Not Release Minor's Funds to Parents

My eight year old son was a beneficiary on a certificate of deposit. The bank wants a letter from the courts stating that we are his guardians/parents. Why would I need this? My husband has an account with this bank. They will not release the funds to us as custodians/guardians without this document, but they will roll funds into his name with the bank as custodians/guardians, until he is eighteen years old. We do not live near this bank and don't want the funds left there.

Contact your attorney to have the documents provided that the bank is requiring. They have to know they are acting properly on behalf of the owner of the funds, your child.
