Depositing Custodial Checks as Minor

I receive dividend checks that are made out to my uncle as the custodian and myself as the minor. I am no longer a minor and have asked the company to rename the account, but the checks never get changed. Can I deposit a custodial check into my account if I am listed as the minor on the check? How can I get them to change my status on the account?

It is up to your uncle as custodian to take the steps to transfer the account into your name. If you are unable to get him to make the change, you could ask a court to order that the change be made. Technically, the checks from that account are payable to your uncle, not to you. Published on BankingQuestions.com 10/10/07
