Check Payable to My Work and Me!

[an error occurred while processing this directive] I sold an item through ebay and had the buyer send the payment to my place of employment. I recently found out that it is against company policy for me to conduct personal business from work, To make matters worse, the buyer sent the money order as payable to my company's name and then care of my name.

I don't want my employers to know that I did personal business at work. If I deposit the money order into my personal account will the bank call my employer for any type of verification?

If the check is made payable the way you have described it - payable to the company - it's likely that you won't be able to deposit it at all. Banks usually don't accept checks payable to businesses for deposit to an individual's account. It may be clear to you that the buyer should have made the check payable to you, but your bank is not likely to see it that way.

Communicate with the buyer to explain your situation. You mad need to get eBay involved as an intermediary. Agree to return the incorrectly-issued money order in exchange for one made out correctly, payable to you, and mailed to your home address.
