I recently found a money order made out to myself. However, it is dated December 13, 2005. Obviously, some time has passed. It is a Wells Fargo personal money order made out for the amount of $50. My grandmother told me that you only have 90 days to cash a money order, but other information I have researched tells me that a money order does not expire. I am a little confused about the whole situation, so any help will be greatly appreciated.
The wisest way to proceed is to contact Wells Fargo to determine whether the money order is still on its books. The bank may have surrendered the $50 to the state as abandoned property. If so, Wells may be able to tell you which state now holds the funds and how to go about retrieving them.
