Cashing Unused Money Order

I recently purchased a money order from a local convenience store for the purpose of a security deposit on a house for rent, and filled it out completely. It has been returned to me because another applicant was approved for the home. How do I now cash it? I have both the actual money order and receipt.

The convenience store or the bank that the money order is drawn on should have a procedure to be followed in the case a money order won't be used as originally intended. Ask to speak with a manager at the store, or look on the money order itself for a customer service number for the bank involved.
