Placing Stop Payment on Money Order

I sent a money order that I bought with cash at a US Postal Office by express mail to a merchant from whom I made a purchase. I have verification that the person signed for it, but I cannot verify if it was cashed. I have not received my merchandise and cannot get in contact with the merchant. Is there any way for me to find out if they cashed it? How do I go about placing a stop payment on it?

You can go to any Post Office, complete a Form 6401, and find out if a Postal Service Money Order has been paid. The same form can be used to request the reissue of a lost, stolen or damaged USPSMO. The fee is $5.00. Published on BankingQuestions.com 1/08/08
