Deferring Foreclosure Pending Short Sale

My bank filed an intent to foreclose on Nov 17, 2008. I filed a request for short sale on Dec 26, 2008. The bank tells me that a short sale request can take some time to process and the foreclosure may happen sooner than an approval for a short sale, and they will not notify me before a foreclosure judgement is filed. Short of sending them a few payments is there another way to stop the foreclosure process pending outcome of short sale?

As a general rule, if your bank has filed for foreclosure, they will accept nothing less than all the payments you are past due. Speak with a person higher up in the bank and see if there are any programs they offer that will help you avoid foreclosure at this point.
