I had a $5,000 gift check bounce from my account. I waited too long to deposit it, and frankly, my account was in the negative quite a bit because of the odd schedule of deposits I was making due to the nature of my employment. The bank decided that they "could no longer maintain their banking relationship with me", which is perfectly understandable. However, they are keeping $4,959.87 of my money hostage for six weeks. The letter is dated 10/14 and the check will be sent on 11/27. Can they do that?
It seems that someone at the bank made a significant mistake, because blocking your access to your funds for six weeks is, ridiculously excessive. Contact the bank and ask it to reconsider its actions.
