$900,000 in My Account by Mistake: Can I keep it?

Nearly $900,000 was deposited into my bank account. I did not deposit it, nor did the bank make an error. I have spoken to the bank, and this has been researched through the fraud department. If the money goes unclaimed, am I entitled to it? The funds have been in my account for six days, and there is a hold on the money until the twentieth of this month.

We simply don't know how to answer this question. There's no truth, at least in banking, that "Finders are keepers". If you have no idea where the funds came from, it's likely that there's been an error made somewhere. Six days is hardly enough time for the bank to trace the deposit or credit down.

Don't make any exciting plans. Those funds will be identified sooner or later. Tell the bank yourself that you want them taken out of your account pending a complete investigation, so that no one at the bank can question your involvement.
