I am a beneficary on my father's checking account. The bank released it to the successer trustee, who put it into the family trust, and won't release it to me. He wants to split it among siblings. Can he do this? Can't he get in trouble along with the bank that made this error?
Your mention of a successor trustee leads us to believe there is more to your question than what is seen here. Without knowing how the account in question was established, and how it was owned (by your father personally, naming you as beneficiary; by a bona fide trust for which your father was the trustee; etc.), we can't offer any guidance.
Your question has all the indicators that you need legal advice in this matter. Please consider talking with an attorney about your concerns.
