The bank received a letter from the child support collection department wanting to collect $3,500.00. There is no judgment yet. The judge has not yet ruled on any issue.
However, the bank started to release $100.00 last week and another $400.00 this week. We were never informed by the bank or anybody that this is going to take place. Can the bank legally just give my money away? Just because they received a letter?
Please let me know ASAP. I have closed the account, but at this point I have lost $500.00, and the bank is refusing to repay this money to me.
Whether or not the bank acted appropriately depends on the content of the letter or notice the bank received and the laws of your state. We are familiar with neither. You are asking a question about which you should talk to an attorney.
