What is the CRA?

My bank said that I could write to the CRA if I had any questions about their performance. Shouldn’t they give me the title of the person that I am supposed to write to? What is the CRA?

CRA is the Community Reinvestment Act. Basically it is a public record of their performance in meeting the credit needs of their community. Your bank has a CRA Public File that you can review, that describes their delineated community, the products they offer, and a public evaluation written by that banks examiner on their last CRA exam.

You can ask the bank who their examining agency is, and then go to that agency's web site to see the public evaluation, as well as make any comments about the bank. Examiners are often interested in these comments three or six months in advance of that bank's next CRA exam.
