Proposed Resolution for Prolonged Hold on Account

I had a hold put on my account for more than seven days and am filling out a complaint form for the state. At the bottom of the form it has an area designated for a proposed resolution. What would be a possible resolution for this issue?

First find out if the length of the hold on your funds was appropriate for the type of check and the location of the bank on which it was drawn. If your financial institution erred and placed a hold that was overly long (longer than permitted by regulations), you might propose as a solution that the institution pay you whatever interest you may have lost by not being able to move the funds when you needed them. If you suffered any other damages as a result of the delay in access to your funds, you should propose that the institution cover those damages, also.

Without knowing the specifics of the check, the location of your bank and the location of the bank the check was drawn on, it can't be determined whether the hold was reasonable or not, but be aware that under some circumstances, it is perfectly legitimate for a bank to hold funds deposited by check for seven business days (for local checks) or eleven business days (for non-local checks). That can be a week and a half to fifteen calendar days.
