I put a stop payment on a scheduled payment for a credit card. I gave the date, name, and amount and paid the bank's fee for placing this stop payment. My account shows that the bank let the payment go through. What happened? What should I do?
It's entirely possible the bank made a mistake. Contact the bank to find out how the payment slipped through. You should also ask them to refund the stop payment fee, since they apparently failed to provide the service.
Check to see whether the bank's error may have caused your account balance to go negative, and if any bounced checks or fees resulted. You may be entitled to recover those costs, too.
