Clearing Times for Online Transactions

How long does an online transaction take to clear into another bank's account?

The time involved in completing the move of funds will depend on the sending bank's procedures and the method used to move the funds (automated clearinghouse or wire transfer, for example). If the sending bank doesn't initiate the transfer until after the close of business (in a batch of transactions), there might be a day's delay in the arrival of the funds. If the automated clearinghouse (ACH) method is used, as is often the case, it would reasonable to expect the funds to be received by the other account within two business days. Wire transfers, which carry a much greater cost, can be completed on a same-day basis.
