If I receive a deposit voucher for my direct deposit pay, can I assume my money is in the bank?
It's almost always true that funds will be in a recipient's account on payday, but when significant overdraftfees could be imposed if something goes wrong, you should verify receipt before writing checks or using your debit card. In some cases, your bank will honor checks or debit card transactions that overdraw your account, and overdraft fees can pile up quickly.
Your bank should be able to verify receipt and availability of your direct deposit on payday morning either by telephone or on the bank's online banking site. In some cases you can determine that funds have reached the bank by simply doing a balance inquiry at an ATM. Be sure you know whether any balance you obtain might be padded with available overdraft funds, if you rely on a balance inquiry.
