Bill Pay Transferring - Can it go both ways?

If my tenant uses the same bank as I do, and has it set-up so that he can transfer funds from his account to mine in order to pay rent, can he also transfer money from my account to his? Who is liable for this? I never gave permission to the bank for any of this.

Your bank can not legally allow anyone to transfer funds from your account without your permission, and should not allow someone to transfer funds into your account without your involvement in the arrangement. Contact the bank and make a claim for any transfers initiated from your account without your authorization, and decide whether you want the bank to block your tenant's ability to pay his rent by transferring funds.
