Borrower Characteristics

What qualifications are needed to borrow from a bank for a personal loan?

The basic qualification factors for a personal loan would include your capacity to repay the requested debt in addition to your existing debt and living expenses. Your credit history is reviewed to see if you have a history of paying on time, or if you have any history at all. A lack of credit history can be a negative factor as there is no existing evidence that you know how to pay debts in a timely manner, month after month. You may be able to show your lender rent receipts or other regular payments you have made that will help make up for this shortfall. Lastly, the lender may want collateral on the loan. This is something tangible that could be taken and sold to pay the loan if you failed to.

Different lenders follow different criteria when deciding if a person is qualified for a loan. It pays to check with more than one lender when you want to shop for the best interest rate, lowest fees and for your basic approval.
