I tried to open an checking account at a new bank. They said they couldn't do it, because I still owed a bank money. I checked my credit report and found nothing about a bank. How do I find out who I owe and how much?

It's possible that the new bank is referring to a report from a specialized credit reporting agency that deals primarily in reports of depositaccount mishandling and losses. Could it be that you left a bank with an overdrawn account?
The new bank should have provided you with a slip of paper with contact information for the source of the information about the debit to another bank. If you didn't get a notice, contact the new bank and ask how to contact the credit reporting agency.
If the information on a debt to another bank is incorrect, you will be given an opportunity to dispute that information with the credit reporting agency, and you can contact the bank in question directly. If the information is correct, you'll need to settle up with that other bank, and then ask them to update your status in the credit reporting agency files to show that you've paid them. Then the new bank may reconsider your request to open a new account, although it won't be under any obligation to do so.
