Dealing with Defaults on a Credit Report

I have two defaults on my credit report. How long before they aren't there anymore?

Untitled

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, most negative payment history in a credit reporting agency's files cannot be included in a consumer report (also called a credit report) if it's more than seven years old. There are some exceptions for special types of credit, such as defaulted student loans, that can be reported for longer periods.

As negative information in a credit bureau file gets older, its relevance to a current credit decision lessens. For example, if the latest default report in your credit report is three months old, it will negatively affect a credit application more than a similar default that's six years old.
