Not Enough in Account: Can Bank Create Overdraft?

If I didn't have enough in my account to cover a pre-authorized payment, can the bank still take out the funds and create an overdraft?

That action depends on the authorization and the bank's terms and conditions for the transfers. Many banks' systems check the available balance first, and don't complete a payment that would overdraft the account. Contact the bank to find out what it's practice is.
