Using POA to Cash Checks

I have Power of Attorney over my son, who in the last few days has been arrested. He has unemployment checks that he did not cash. How do I get these cashed so I can pay his rent?

Bring the checks and a signed original of the Power of Attorney to your bank. Ask a customer service representative how to go about cashing them. He or she will be able to show you how to sign the checks on behalf of your son.

Your bank isn't obligated to cash the checks, with or without the power of attorney. It may agree to do so, however, based on your account relationship.
