'Transparency' as POA

My brother died three months ago. The beneficiary of his life insurance is my mom, who lives overseas. She has given me power of attorney. How do I go about opening an account and depositing her check, and also have transparency that I am not using this money?

As for opening an account, take the power of attorney to a bank to determine if it will accept the power of attorney and allow you to open the account in your mother's name. A bank where you already do business is more likely to be accommodating.

Ordinarily, an attorney in fact is accountable to the principal (your mother in this case) for his or her actions on behalf of the principal. In other words, you would only answer to your mother for your use of her funds. Keep careful records of money deposited to and withdrawn from the account, and make sure that you don't use any of your mother's funds for your own benefit. That should be sufficient.
