POA ... or Not a POA

My boyfriend just got incarcerated and his income tax refund just came in the mail. He has given me Power of Attorney to handle all financial transactions. There is no way for him to sign it over to me. What should I do?

The Power of Attorney (POA) may be enough to permit you to negotiate that check on his behalf. It has to have specific wording in it, and your financial institution would have the final word on whether it will accept it. Take the unendorsed check and the POA to your bank and ask whether it will permit you to complete the transaction for your friend.
