IRA Check Payee Has Died -- Now What?

My late husband and I had separate IRA accounts. He died a couple of days after receiving a check for his required distribution for this year. What should I do with the check?

Since the check was issued before your husband's death, the funds belong to his estate. You should deliver it to the court-appointed estate representative. If you fill that role, you should deposit the check to the estate's account.
