Would anyone other than me ever be able to get into my safe deposit box?
Possibly. Obviously, if you have a joint renter, that person has co-equal access rights, or if you execute a Power of Attorney giving someone authority to enter your box, that person would have access. The same is true if you appoint a deputy on your box. If you become incompetent or incapacitated and a court appoints a guardian for you, the guardian will have access rights. If the bank is served with a search warrant, seizure warrant, or other court order, the bank will be forced to grant access, and when you die, the personal representative of your estate could get access.
