Losing Keys

I have a problem keeping track of things. I always have. I just know that if I keep my safe deposit key it will be lost before long. Will the bank keep it for me?

No, the bank should never accept the customer's key to a safe deposit box until the customer is ready to terminate the lease and surrender the box. The security and privacy of the box rental arrangement depend upon the box being accessible only when the customer is present with his key and the bank is present with the guard key. If the bank has possession of the customer key and the Guard key, an employee of the bank who gains access to both keys could make an unauthorized entry into the box. The bank needs to avoid any possibility that that could occur.
