Found an Old Savings Book – Still Valid?

I recently found a savings deposit book that belonged to my grandmother with a $1 balance, dated 6/29/34 from a trust company that is no longer in business. Is there any way to tell if this account is still valid?

You can take a look at the FDIC's Bank Find page to see if you can determine what happened to the bank. You can also contact the Abandoned Property division of the state in which your grandmother resided and where the bank was located. If you don't find anything, there probably isn't much hope that the account exists.
