My old landlord deposited a two and a half year old check against my account. This check was probably a forgery, since I just moved from the old place and they found it behind some furniture or something. Can I reverse this check?
If you never issued the check, the payment from your account was not authorized, and you should contact your bank at once to say so. The mere fact that the check is old doesn't make it an unauthorized payment if you issued the check, however.
If the check wasn't authorized by you, you should complete an affidavit of forgery and your bank should reimburse you for the amount of the check. The bank can assist you with this. Don't delay, though. Your bank will be responsible for the amount of the check, unless it is able to identify and pursue the forger.
