I have been approched via e-mail about someone wanting to put money in my account. I have rejected the idea until they said "open an account with no money in it along with my I.D." Is there still trouble with this scenario?
Anyone who asks you to open an account in his name appears to have a reason not to open the account himself. That's suspicious.
If someone wants to give you money, and there's a legitimate reason for their wanting to do so, such as they it owe you, or are giving you a gift, you probably should ask for cash or a check that you can deposit yourself, and wait to make sure it's paid before spending the money. In specific situations, like an employment scenario or signing up for retirement benefits, it would be reasonable to provide information on your account, so that money could be directly deposited.
