How long after forged checks have been cashed/discovered is the bank liable for reimbursement?
There is an absolute legal limit of one-year (shorter in some states) before which a customer must make a claim for a forged drawer's signature on a check. In addition, a bank may include language in its deposit agreement that cuts that period back further. Some banks set the deadline at 30 days. In limited circumstances, a claim can be made and be considered valid after the deadline set by a bank, but the one-year deadline is firm.
