I sold a pickup for over 25k. The man stopped payment on his check to me, but still has the pickup. What are my options?
Unless you can convince the guy to return your truck, it seems that you have three options: accept the loss of the $25,000; negotiate another sales price (assuming that the reason for the stop is the guy wanted a better deal); or contact the police. In most states, you'd have a case for larceny by check, fraud, and a number of other charges. You might also contact your state's vehicle title division to see if a flag can be placed on the title to prevent the guy from selling the truck to someone else.
Contact the police and the title division. You don't want to lose the money and undoubtedly don't trust the guy to negotiate a lower price in good faith.
