I thought I checked everything out, but I became victim of a scam anyhow. I cashed a check that now I believe was bogus, and to make it worse, I sent the money where it needed to go. What should I do?
Be prepared to be contacted by your bank, which will expect you to reimburse it for the amount of the check, once it bounces. Your endorsement on the check does make you responsible for it. If you recall details of how you came to have the check, you can contact the police, but you may find that their budgets won't allow them to spend a lot of their resources on trying to identify and arrest the crook.
