A cashier's check was made out to my company from a third party with whom I did not directly do business. I deposited it into my account at the same institution, but at a different branch, only to find out a month and a half later that they suspect forgery and overdrew my account. How am I responsible?
If your company did not directly do business with the remitter of the cashier's check, on what basis were you entitled to the payment in the first place? You will have to contact the bank directly for a response, but it seems that the remitter is alleging that the intended payee did not receive the check, and that your company's endorsement was not authorized. Without knowing more about the intention of the remitter, the exact spelling of the payee name on the check and the full name of your company, it's impossible for us to know whether the bank is correct in having apparently charged the amount of the check back to your account.
