My ex-husband died recently. Our kids were his next of kin. He had two paychecks coming that had not been received. His girlfriend stole a check out of his mailbox, forged his name and deposited it in her checking account a month after he died. What do my kids (18,19 and 24) need to do?
Contact the employer who wrote the checks. Explain what happened and that you want the checks reissued. They should be able to do this and pursue, through the banking system, a forgery claim.
