I got mail about the Yahoo Lottery. If I get the cheque from the UK, can I put that in my account? The amount will get deposited in my account. Is it true or not?
We went straight to the source for the answer, the Yahoo! site itself, and searched using "yahoo lottery" as keywords. You can be sure that any email you receive that claims to be from Yahoo! or anyone else, announcing that you've won a prize in a lottery or contest you never entered is phony, a scam, a fraud, a giant rip-off!
You could deposit a check that purports to be a prize from such a contest, especially if the bank teller isn't alert to the scam, but when the check bounces as a fraud, as it most certainly will, you'll be the victim, because your account will be charged and you'll be on the hook for the overdraft. Don't respond to the email. Don't deposit such a check. Don't be scammed.
