About two months ago I found a fraudulent charge on my checking account for $140 from PayPal. I called PayPal and told them that I did not make this charge and they said they would look into it and start their fraud process. I then went to my bank, First Merit, and made a fraud charge, stopped my debit card, got a new one and handled all of that. About two weeks ago I received a package in the mail from PayPal, a manila envelope with three styrophome peanuts inside and nothing else. Yesterday I got a letter from First Merit saying that they are denying my fraudulent charge because there is a tracking number associated with the purchase I had supposedly made. While there is a tracking number, it was for an empty package! How can I get First Merit to see that this was a fraudulent charge?
You have made a claim with your bank. Tell them an unauthorized electronic funds transfer was made from your account. You did not authorize the charge. They need to investigate the claim and determine if you made the charge, authorized it to be made, or benefited from it. You need to make your case that you authorized no charge regardless of receiving an empty envelope.
