Give Bank Info to Dishonest Merchant?

I made a purchase from a dishonest seller on ebay. After some wrangling, he offered me a refund. He wants my bank account details. Should I give them to him?

No, if you can't use PayPal or a similar third-party, secure payment mechanism that protects confidential information, ask for a bank cashier's check or a U.S. Postal System money order for exactly the amount owed you. Do not accept a payment for more than what's owed you, because that will be an almost certain sign that the check or money order will be fraudulent. Finally, be sure to allow plenty of time for the check or money order to clear (more than the time your bank holds the funds) before you spend the money.
