Recovering Funds from Fraud

Someone broke into my house and stole a book of checks along with other items. The thief then forged my signature and cashed several checks. I informed my bank immediately after I realized my checkbook was missing. Will the bank return the stolen money? Is there anything else I should do?

The bank should return the stolen funds. In such cases, it's usually a good idea to file a police report, and you might consider working with your bank to close the old account and reopen with a new account number. That can prevent the bank from posting any more forged checks. In the meantime, use your bank's online account access to check activity in the account each day to make sure there aren't more stolen checks presented against your account.
