I Was Scammed: Who is Responsible for the Check?

I went into my bank to fill out an affidavit of forgery on a check that came through my account as "no signature required." I authorized the check, but I later found out that this company is a scam. I went in within the 30 days from my statement to dispute the check. The bank refuses to do anything about this, saying I am at fault for giving out my account number before researching the company.

The bank is not responsible for your misplaced trust in that company. Because you said you authorized the transaction, the bank can hold you accountable for the transaction. If you had not authorized the transaction, the appropriate form to be completed would be an affidavit that you didn't authorize the check.
