Can a different branch of the same bank make a mistake and put the same account numbers on new checks for different people in different towns using the same major bank?
We haven't heard of that happening in a long time, but we know that it's possible, depending on the bank's system for assigning account numbers.
If this has happened to you, you should contact the bank immediately and ask that it sort out transactions on the two accounts, assigning a new account number to one of them.
