Checks Payable to Trust or Trustee?

I have a trust. Can a check be made payable to a trustee of the trust, or does it need to be payable to the trust itself?

If the intention is to move funds to the trust, the check can be payable either to the name of the trust or to the named trustee. For example, if Mary Jones is trustee of Jones Family Trust, a check for the trust could be made payable in any of the following ways:

- Jones Family Trust
- Mary Jones, Trustee
- Mary Jones, trustee for Jones Family Trust

Of the three, the last is probably the best wording, because it eliminates any guess work about who is the payee.
